11 June - Somerfield, Holbeach

We were invited to play outside Somerfield supermarket in Holbeach as part of the store's celebration of a refit.  It was a cold morning and many members were unable to attend due to work and other commitments.  However with a small band of 8 we managed quite well with the musical director playing the bass part on a euphonium.  The store were pleased with the result.

12 June - Praise in the Park

This was a Songs of Praise in Carters Park Holbeach organised by the Holbeach Methodist Church.  We had a low, but reasonable, turnout and played 6 hymns.  It started off quite cold but the sun eventually came out.  At the end of the service we played Jupiter's Theme.

19 June - Holbeach Vintage Rally

Our annual visit to the Holbeach Vintage Rally (formerly known as the tractor rally).  This was a very hot day but we had a modest turn out from the band including a couple of guest players.  We were next to the main arena which disrupted our playing.

25 June - All Saints Church Fete

A small group of the band played at the annual Church Fete at All Saints Church, Holbeach.  It was raining when we arrived and they held the fete inside the church.  Also playing in the church was a folk accordion player and we split the morning.

26 June - Wisbech Park

About half the band travelled to the park in Wisbech to help the Royal British Legion Band (Spalding) perform an afternoon concert.  Members of the Spalding Band have helped us during the year and it was nice to be able to repay the favour.

2 July - Coates School Fete

A pleasant afternoon at Coates Primary School Fete, near Whittlesey, Cambs.  We were asked to play from 1.00pm;  when we got there we were given the programme of events for the day and from 2.00 to 3.00 there were majorettes and maypole dancers on the playground next to us, so we had an hour break and returned at 3.00 for another half hour.  Our organisation on the day was quite poor!  Three players arrived 45 minutes late and they had the spare music, so we had a Bb Bass transcribing from Eb Bass music, Solo Horn sharing the music of 1st horn, and the Musical Director playing euphonium from the score.  In addition none of the trombones were able to attend, which restricted the repertoire.
1-5 August - Learn to Play Week

We opened the bandroom for a week of afternoons to teach people to play.  It was very successful;  one adult and four children came every day and could play a simple tune at the end of a week;  others came on different days to make the week worthwhile.

We showed visitors how to play brass instruments, and had a display of music, instruments and photographs.

Following the week, we have six more members in our learner group.
