LEARN TO PLAY IN A WEEK
(See below if you can play a brass instrument)

We encouraged people of all ages (from 8 upwards) to come to our bandroom every afternoon in the week when we taught them the basics of playing a brass band instrument.  This was from 2.00pm until 4.00pm every day.

Subject to availability, the instruments were:

!3 people (aged from 8 to 70) joined the scheme.  This was a manageable number, although the two oldest did not return after the first day!  All the others made substantial progress during the week.

Band members were on hand to assist the Musical Director during the week.  All available instruments were in the bandroom, including members own instruments.

Over the week there were a series of lessons on playing instruments; cleaning and maintaining them; reading music; playing rhythms; conducting.

At the end of the week each learner was presented with a certificate and were all asked to complete a simple questionnaire.  Questionnaire Results

For those who can already play:
Every afternoon from 4.00pm to 5.00pm, the band held an informal rehearsal where anyone could join in.  It was disappointing that no new faces turned up for this.

OPEN DAY
Our annual Open Day was on Thursday 8th August 2002 where the bandroom was open to the public.  Visitors were invited to look around the bandroom, try instruments, and talk to band members.
