OPEN DAY

We advertised the opportunity to join the band’s rehearsal or conduct the band

Holbeach Town Band held its annual Open Day on Saturday 31st July from 10.00am to 4.00pm at the Band Hall, Back Lane, Holbeach.  Members of the public were invited to come along and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat with some of the band members and try out the instruments.

From 2.00pm to 4.00pm there was an informal band rehearsal outside our band hall and all brass players, of every ability, were invited to join us – whether they play in a band or have in the past or just play for their own enjoyment.  Furthermore, there was an opportunity to conduct the band, but no-one took up this offer. In fact, although we played outside in the car park, only one person stopped to listen.  But the band was disappointingly short of members due to holidays, illness and work commitments - only 10 managed to turn up.

However, the open day was something of a success as we were joined by father and daughter - daughter plays with the Salvation Army Band, but father has not played since school days - and he has another daughter who plays horn at school.  We hope they will all join us.

Now in its Third Year, Holbeach Town Band is holding sessions in brass playing for one week starting on 3rd August to 6th August from 2.00pm to 4.00pm daily at the Band Hall. You will be taught how to read music and shown how to play the brass instrument of your choice (subject to availability).

You can try the Trumpet, Cornet, Flugel Horn, Tenor Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone or Tuba. By the end of the week you should be able to play simple tunes and will be given a Certificate of Achievement. The lessons are FREE and if you would like to progress the Band would be pleased to continue your tuition on Wednesdays at 6.30pm to 7.30pm before the Holbeach Town Band start their practice - where you would be welcome to join in.

The only payment we ask of adult band members is 50p per week towards heating and lighting - children and students still at school are exempt. Uniform, music, instrument and use of the band hall all come out of band funds.

We look forward to seeing you and hope you will enjoy playing and learning with us.
