REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
9th November 2002

Once again, the band played in the morning at the remembrance service in Holbeach St Marks near Holbeach.  It was a wet miserable day and the Royal British Legion decided to change the proceedings.  Usually, the proceedings start with a short service at the war memorial near the church when wreaths are laid and Last Post is sounded.  Today, in view of the weather, this ceremony was moved into the church and preceded the Service.  At the end of the Service, Last Post is sounded again inside the church - so it was played twice.

The band was under-strength for the day.  Of the three solo cornet players, only the youngest and least experienced was able to attend;  the Principal Cornet had been taken to hospital, another had given advance warning that he had another commitment that day.  To make matters worse, the 1st (and only) Baritone player and Eb Bass player were both taken ill.

The Musical Director asked Douge, the Band's Solo Horn (who had recently moved to Horn from Solo Cornet) if he could go back to cornet for the day and he willingly agreed to do so - he made a fine job of the Last Post.
