REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
9th November 2003

Once again, the band played at the remembrance service in Holbeach St Marks near Holbeach.  This year, the service was changed to the afternoon - we were given a start time of 2.30pm, but did not find out until we arrived that the service actually started at 3.00pm, so we had a bit of waiting around.

The proceedings started with a short service at the war memorial near the church when a wreath was laid and Last Post sounded.  At the end of the Service a small ceremony takes place at the back of the Church and Last Post is sounded again inside the church. The Principal Cornet had been taken ill but the number 2, Philip Edgley, made a fine job of Last Post.

The band was quite strong and produced a good performance.

At the end of the service the vicar was still at the back of the Church and he indicated to the Musical Director to 'Carry on'.  So the band started to play incidental music, and noticed that the congregation were still standing from the last hymn.  So the band stopped playing; the MD sat down and the congregation sat down;  and the band restarted!!
