David Curry (tenor)

Review in Spalding Guardian on 25 January 2001

Canadian tenor David Curry was at the South Holland Centre, Spalding, on Saturday.  Performing with pianist Helen Collyer, he demonstrated a wide range of vocal skills, from An die ferne Geliebte by Beethoven, to impassioned operatic arias by Tchaikovski, Verdi and Puccini.  Schubert's Die schone Müllerin was dramatic and touching, conjuring up scenes from nature.  An English song set by Britten, Quiller and Vaughan Williams, made a contrasting end to the first half.  La Fleur, from Carmen, was touching, leading to powerful climaxes.  Pianist and singer showed themselves equally at home with Massenet's En fermant les yeux from Carmen. The next concert will feature organist Martin Stacey at the Parish Church of St Marv and St Nicolas on Saturday, March 3.
