Sun 3 September RBL Ayscoughfee Gardens

A few of us joined the Spalding-based Royal British Legion Band (Lincolnshire) at their annual concert in Ayscoughfee Gardens, Spalding; it was the last concert in the season of concerts in the gardens. Although it was sunny, it was very windy with the less experienced players seeing their music blowing away on a regular basis!

Sun 10 September 2006 Praise in the Park

This was a Sunday afternoon in Carters Park, Holbeach, organised by the Holbeach Methodist Church. The weather was fine (in fact it was quite hot!) unlike June we had to aboandon the event due to the rain. Unfortunately, the afternoon was marred by the antics and shouting of the local youth

We played for 30 minutes before a service where we played the hymns. We used the opportunity to give a preview of our forthcoming 'Last Night of the Proms' concerts.

Sat 23 September 2006 Last Night of the Proms, Holbeach

We had a typically small audience at All Saints Church, Holbeach. [Why don't Holbeach people support local concerts?] The band played well and were well received by the audience. We provided everyone with a Union Flag and a Song Sheet and the audience sang along to 1914, Keep Smiling Through, Jupiter (I vow to thee my country) and Pomp And Circumsytance (Land of Hope and Glory). We reprised the hornpipe from Fantasia on British sea Songs, and also Land of Hope and Glory to much flag waving. 13 year old Steven Butter played I Don't Know How to Love Him as a solo on cornet; he played it very well and with great confidence. His mother played Barry Manilow's One Voice on Euphonium - again, a very good performance.

Wed 11 October 2006 Last Night of the Proms, Long Sutton

This concert in St Mary's Church Long Sutton was one of our best in recent times. We were short of a few players through illness and had some welcome help from the Royal British Legion band (Linolnshire) and the Kirton Town Band. We provided everyone in the audience with a Union Flag and a Song Sheet and had some very enthusiastic singing and flag waving. Fr Jonathon, vicar of St Mary's, got the audience standing to sing for a reprise of Jupiter - 'I vow to thee my country'. There were further encores of the hornpipe from Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Land of Hope and Glory with enthusiastic flag waving.

Sat 14 October 2006 Brass and Bells concert

We joined Holbeach Methodist Chimers (hand-ball ringers) for a joint concert at Holbeach Methodist Church. We opened and closed each half and the chimers played a set in the middle of each half. We played parts of our Last Night of the Proms programme, with another confident solo from Steven Butter. The Chimers played Gavotte by S. Wesley and Skater's Waltz by Emile Waldteufel in the first half and St. Bernard's Waltz and a pair of Irish jigs - Rory O'More and The Irish Washerwoman in the second half. Another small but enthusiastic audience with plenty of patriotic flg waving.

Sun 12th November Remembrance

We joined with the Royal British Legion Band (Lincolnshire) for two events. We went with them to Bourne in the morning. We lead the parade from the bus station to the war memorial; played incidental music while they laid wreaths; Dean (from the RBL Band) played Last Post and \Reveille; we ended by leading the parade to Church.

In the afternoon, the RBL Band joined us for our annual visit to Holbeach St Marks. We played incidental music at the War memorial; Dean played Last Post and Reveille; we then went into Church and played for the service. At the end of the service Dean again played Last Post at the Memorial inside the Church.
