Sun 14 May Springfields

This was a pleasant afteroon playing in the Springfields Retail Outlet, Spalding. Although we had a modest sized-band, the afternoon went well and we were well-received.

Sun 4 June Praise in the Park

This was to be an afternoon of hymn-singing in Carters park, Holbeach. We should have played for the hymns with an informal concert for 30 minutes before. We arrived to bright sunshine and started the concert; very shortly it clouded over and we ere soon running for the shelter of trees. We palyed again, but by the time of the service it was raining quite heavily so the service was cancelled. We hope to repeat the event later in the year.

Sun 18 June Holbeach Vintage Rally

A very pleasant afternoon providing entertainment at the annual Vintage Rally. The weather was very good - not too hot. The organisers placed by the side of the arena between the refreshment tent and the back of the craft tent. Unfortunately there were events in the arena all afternoon with constant announcements over the loudspeaker; at the one time when there was a gap in proceedings the announcer played a rock CD he had received for Fathers Day!

Sat 1 July Wisbech Rose Fair
A few of us went to Wisbech with the Spalding Royal British Legion Band. A pleasant morning in the nshopping area, in the shade of buildings.

Sat 1 July Coatesschool fete

During the afternoon we played for the Coates Primary School fete. A very hot day - we were fortunate that the school had placed us in the shade of a tree. Those of us who had been at Wisbech in the morning made use of the hot-dog and burger stall; and the ice cream was one of the best I've had for a long time.

Sun 2 July Normandy Veterens Service

This was a Service of Thanksgiving for the Normandy Veterans at the Anglia Motel, Holbeach where there was a vintage car rally. Another early lunch as the Service started at 1.00pm. We played the hymns Eventide and Jerusalem and sounded Last Post. We played on the back of a covered trailer - again, welcome shade from the hot sun. After the Service we played for an hour then had a break while the vintage vehicles paraded. The RAF Memorial Flight (Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane) were due to fly over at 3.00pm and we were asked to play the Dambusters March - at 3.00 we were told the flight would arrive within 30 minutes; at 4.05 they were 10 minutes away; they arrived at 4.30! In the meantime, the parade of vehicles had ended and we played patriotic background music (although there seemed very few visitors - most of the people appeared to be stall-holders or exhibitors).

Sun 16 July Springfields

Another pleasant sunny afternoon. A pity Springfields had double-booked a young rock band to play at the same time further along the shopping mall - their amplified sound carried too well! Requests for them to turn down the sound did not work, but we carried on.
