24 November

An early start to our Christmas season, this concert was arranged by the Holbeach Royal British Legion to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal. The concert was at the Holbeach Services Club; the programme is listed below. There was a good enthusiastic audience who sang along heartily to the Christmas songs. Our principal cornet was ill, so we were very pleased to have the support of players from the Royal British Legion Band (Lincolnshire). Our second solo cornet, 13 year old Steven Butter, did an excellent job playing many of the solos.

Four of our learner players joined the concert (two on back-row cornet and two on euphonium) - three for the first time. We hope they enjoyed the experience and its the first of many.

1-6 December

We helped the Royal British Legion Band (Lincolnshire) in a week of events:
On Friday, 1st December it was their Christmas concert at the South Holland Centre, Spalding. It was a good concert with a large audience.

On Saturday, 2nd Decemebr we played in the shopping centre in Wisbech during the day and then for a full concert at Surflett Church arranged through the Surfleet British Legion - another enjoyable concert with a good audience.

On Sunday, 3rd Decmebr we played carols in Splading town centre at lunchtime and then went to the Masonic Hall to play carols for a widows Christmas party.

On Monday, 4th December, it was back to the Masonic Hall for a small group to play carols.

On Wednesday 6th October, a small group played carols at Spalding Grammar School for the Flower Lovers Club.

9 December Les and Brenda, our fund-raisers, held their annual Christmas bingo session and we played a few carols and Christmas songs at the interval. Brenda presented the band chairman, Yvonne, with a cheque for £2,400 representing the money they raised this year.
10 December Holbeach Christmas Fayre - we played carols and Christmas songs. It was very cold and draughty; we moved around a corner out of the wind and it started to rain! We did not stay too long!!
16 December The band's Christmas concert at All Saints Church, Holbeach. We had a good band and a good audience. The audience were in fine voice for the sing-along items. We changed the programme slightly to end the first half with Schneewaltzer (The Snow Waltz). At the end we played Silent Night as an encore. Steven Butter again excelled, playing flugel horn cues and his mother Yvonne played a fine solo. Again we were joined by members of the Royal British Legion Band (Lincolnshire) and two from Kirton band.

17 December A small group carols played in the day wards of Holbeach Hosptial
21 December A small group played carols at the Springfields Retail Outlet, Spalding on a cold foggy evening. We had a well balanced group and played Christmas songs as well as carols.
