Biographical Details
A
native of Somerset, Martin Stacey began his musical education at the age of
four, entering Queen's College, Taunton as an organ scholar in 1989, and
becoming a prizewinner at the 1992 Young Organist of the Year competition. In
1994 he entered the Royal Academy of Music, studying under Nicholas Danby, David
Titterington, and Naji Hakim, and participated in Masterclasses with many of the
world's most eminent organists. Winning major prizes for organ and early music,
he graduating with first class honours.
In
1989/99 Martin received support form the Countess of Munster Musical Trust to
continue private tuition with Nicholas Kynaston and Dame Gillian Weir.
While
being committed to reviving neglected organ music from the 16th and
17th centuries, Martin Stacey also pursues a keen interest in
composition and arrangement for the instrument. His 'Five Pieces for Two
Trumpets and Organ' received its first performance in Portugal in 1999.
