Sun 30th April - Moulton Chapel Tuliptime Parade

A welcome return to an old favourite. We were near the front of the parade on the back of a trailer towed behind a tractor.  We did not play as much as usual - probably because there were no stops in the parade where we would normally play for the crowds.

7th May - King's Coronation Event at Carter's Park, Holbeach

This event was organised by Holbeach Parish Council in the Jubilee Garden in Carter’s Park, Holbeach. We played for an hour. It was a sunny day and there was a long queue for the ice cream van.

Sat 13th May - Spalding Flower Parade

After an absence of 10 years, the Spalding Flower Parade returned.  It was an early start - we were asked to arrive at the Castle Sports Centre no later than 9.00am for an 11.00am start. It was very busy!
We rode on the back of a lorry - there were no sides, but the seats were strapped down.  We had to take a ladder with us to get on the back of the lorry!  We had been told it would be the same vehicle as at Moulton Chapel but that was not the case.  We were also told that the lorry would be decorated but when we got there it was completely bare;  fortunately we were able to find bunches of tulips, some string and some knitted flags.
The start was delayed  by 15-20 minutes because a tree branch was in the way of the first float and had to be removed.
We had a few complaints about not playing as we passed the less-populated areas - the visitors don’t realise that we have to take a break between pieces, to change the music and get our breath back.  We did manage to play the Flower Parade March 8 or 9 times!!
We’ve been invited to take part again next year on 11th May 2024.

Sat 20th May - Craft fair at Crowland Abbey

Another return visit to Crowland Abbey - always a pleasant event.  We played incidental music for two hours to the stall-holders inside the Abbey.

Sun 11th June - Village fete at Fleet Hargate

A new event for us.  It was the hottest day of the year at 26/27 degrees and we were in an arena in the middle of a field. We were asked to play at 1.00pm at the opening of the fete and again at 3.00pm up to close.  We played 2 x 40 minute sets with an hour's gap. We had a stall with leaflets and instruments to advertise our learner groups.
