They made us very welcome, and the choice of home-made soups at the half-time interval was a bonus. We played a mixture of concert pieces and carols, with the audience singign along to the carols. Programme:
3rd December - Carols at Sainsbury's, Spalding Our first carol-playing of the season. We had a good turnout on this chilly but otherwise nice day.
3rd December - carols at Crowland Abbey A group of us went to play carols at the Christmas Fayre at Crowland Abbey. The accoustics in the Abbey are first classs, and the young players made the most of them. 4th December - Concert at St Nicholas Fayre A return to All Saints Church, Holbeach for their St Nicholas Fayre. It was a busy and active place. We played a mixture of concert pieces and carols. 9th December - Carols for Band Bingo We played a few carols at the Band's monthly fundraising bingo at the W.I. Hall, Holbeach. We only played for about 15 minutes, so thanks to the band members for turning out. We were made very welcome by the bingo players.
11th December - Carols at Morrisons Pinchbeck Carols this Sunday morning at Morrisons Supermarket at Wardentree Lane, Pinchbeck. It's a few years since we played there. It was nice to play inside the store. We received a lot of favourable comments!
17th December - Carols at Tescos Holbeach Carol playing at our 'home' supermarket - Tesco in Holbeach. Good turnout by the band and, again, lots of good comments from the public.
17th December - Concert at Holy Trinity Church Very pleasant return visit (after a couple of years) to the Holy Trinity Church, Holbeach. Initially the Church wanted some unusual carols which we did not have. Our MD aquired the piano part and created 4-part arrangements of them. The Church then changed its mind and reverted to the more usual carols. The priest also told us in the week before the concert that he wanted the band's musical items to be restricted to Christmas hymns with nothing secular. This caused a bit of an issue as we had expected to play the same programme as on 2nd December (above). We had only 4 pieces to play (plus all the carols) so we played Christmas Joy March, When Christmas Sleeps, Mary's Boy Child and Christmas Piece (based on the Sussex carol). Once we again we had a lot of good comments. 21st December - Carols Around the Tree Back at All Saints Church, Holbeach to accompany the carols around the Christmas Tree outside the Church. There was a good crowd signing along. And it stayed fine (for a change!). 21st December - Carols at the Masonic Hall, Spalding A return visit to the Masonic Hall, Spalding to play carols at the December meeting of the Welland Lodge. Always a pleasant evening with enthusiastic singing! 24th December - Carols at Tescos Holbeach Back to our 'home' supermarket - Tesco in Holbeach - for some Christmas Eve carol playing. Excellent turnout by the band and, again, lots of good comments from the public.
