.Holbeach Town Band holds one or more open days each year. Members of the public are invited to come along and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat with some of the band members and try out the instruments.   We vary the format from year to year - we alwaysa have a display of instruments but sometimes we incorporate a coffee morning; or we may have a display of photographs.

If there are enough visitors we have an informal band rehearsal and all brass players, of every ability, join us – whether they play in a band or have in the past or just play for their own enjoyment.  Furthermore, there is an opportunity to conduct the band.

We advertise Open Days in the local press and distribute posters around the area and to local schools

Since 2002 Holbeach Town Band holds sessions in brass playing for one week starting in August from 2.00pm to 4.00pm daily at the Band Hall. Visitors are taught how to read music and shown how to play the brass instrument of their choice (subject to availability).

They can try the Trumpet, Cornet, Flugel Horn, Tenor Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone or Tuba. By the end of the week they should be able to play simple tunes and will be given a Certificate of Achievement. The lessons are FREE and, if they would like to progress, the Band would be pleased to continue their tuition on Wednesdays at 6.30pm to 7.30pm before the Holbeach Town Band practice starts - where they would be welcome to join in.

The only payment we ask of adult band members is 50p per week towards heating and lighting - children and students still at school are exempt. Uniform, music, instrument and use of the band hall all come out of band funds.

For further information or to register for Learn to Play in a Week contact the Band's Musical Director, Mel Hopkin - email: mel@holbeachtownband.org.uk

Over the week there will be a series of lessons on playing instruments; cleaning and maintaining them; reading music; playing rhythms; conducting.
