14 September - The Old Rectory,
Fleet
A delightful sunny Sunday afternoon playing atan outdoor garden party
for the owners of the Old Rectory, at Fleet near Holbeach. There was a
very good attendance at the garden party who enjoyed tea, beer and refreshments
in the garden. We played from 2.00 to 5.00pm with a couple of breaks.
During one break the choir from the George Farmer School, Holbeach performed.
We had a good turn-out but, infortunately, not a single bass!! Apart
from the usual garden fete programme we used the opportunity to run through
some of the pieces for next Saturday's last Night of the Proms. These
were well received - particularly the Hornpipe from Fantasia on British
Sea Songs.
20 September - Last Night of the
Proms,
St Mary's Church, Long Sutton
The Band is going from strength to strength. We had an excellent
Last Night of the Proms and received a very warm reception from
an enthusiastic audience.
We played at St Mary's
Church, Long Sutton at the kind request of Fr Jonathon Sibley.
The lighting in the church wasn't bad but we took the opportunity
to try out our new music stand lights, generously donated by Bryan
Thompson Windows of Holbeach. They proved very successful, but we're
not sure if we can afford to replace the batteries too often at
3 batteries to each light!
We had a band of 32 and had some difficulty fitting the band into
the area in front of the pews. We had to have 5 rows of cornets!
Knowing it would be a hard blow, we had help around the band - one
each of solo cornet, 3rd cornet, 2nd horn, 2nd baritone, euphonium,
bass trombone and Bb Bass.
The audience particularly enjoyed the cornet solo 'Spanish Eyes'
(played very confidently by Adam Wilson) and the selections Journey
through America and Classical Gold. The concert really came to life
when the band played Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Pomp &
Circumstance March No 1, to much flag waving by the audience. The
band were persuaded to play an encore of the Hornpipe and also repeated
'Land of Hope and Glory'.
After Land of Hope and Glory the audience asked for another encore
but the band declined!

10 October
- Poppy Appeal Concert, Holbeach
This was another strong performance by the
band. Two new members played their first concert - mark on Bb Bass
and Charlie with trumpet on the 2nd cornet part. Charlie comes from
Beijing and is staying in England until next Spring while hi mother
teaches Mandarin at the Spalding Grammar School. Charlie's mother
was in the audience to see his first concert, and to hear a brass
band for the first time.
The concert was organised by the Holbeach
Royal British Legion. It was held in the Holbeach Services Club.
The British Legion did not sell many tickets so we had a small audience
in the room; but the adjoining bar was packed where they could hear
the band but did not have to buy a ticket!!
In the second half we played nostalgic music suitable for the occasion.

9th November - Remembrance Service
The Annual Remebrance Service was held at Holbeach St Marks Church.
As usual, the band played incidental music at the War Memorial near
the church and Steven Butter played Last Post and Reveille veryconfidently.
It was very windy outside and the band did well to play in those
conditions.
The band then played the hymns for the service and Steven again
played Last Post and Reveille at the Memorial inside the Church.
