2 & 9 November 2007 - Baytree Garden Centre

An early start to the band's Christmas activites was this visit to Baytree Garden Centre at the opening of their Christmas season. We had a quintet (2 cornets, horn, euphonium and bass) and played Christmas carols and festive songs. Baytree opened specially for loyalty card holders and the press. On the 2nd there was also a firework display.

8 December 2007 - Band Bingo

The Band played carols at the annual Christmas Bingo session run by Les and Brenda, the Band's fund-raisers. Musical Director Mel and Chairman Yvonne were presented with a cheque for £2,800 for the band representing the proceeds of fundraising during the past year. Mel also chose the winner of the 'Best Hat' competition and he drew the raffle. He thanked Les and Brenda for all their hard work raising funds for the band.

8 December 2007 - RBL Christmas Concert at Surfleet

A couple of us went to join the Royal0 British Legion Band (Lincolnshire) for the Surfleet Branch Christmas concert in Surfleet Church.

9 December 2007 - Holbeach Christmas Fair

We had a good turnout for the annual Christmas fair. We had just got set up in the main street ready to play our first carol when Santa and the Christmas parade arrived and we had to move to one side. The weather forecast for the day had been quite miserable, but it is fine although it turned quite cool later in the afternoon. We were due to play from 1.00pm to 4.00pm but by 3.30 the crowds had disappared so we finished early.

12 December 2007 - Whaplode Women's Institute

We were pleased to be invited to the Whaplode Women's Institue Christmas meeting to provide festive entertainment. We started playing at 7.30 while the guests were eating supper. We played a selection of Christmas and other pieeces. We also included a few Christmas songs in the first half. During the break we were provided with an excellent buffet. In the second half we played mainly Christmas tunes intersperced with carols.

15 December 2007 - Moulton Seas End

Our Christmas concert was, by invitation, at the Moulton Seas End village hall. We had a reasonable turnout although we could have done with 2 or 3 more cornets! We played a similar concert to the Whaplode Women's Institute to a receptive audience.

22 December 2007 - Carols at Somerfield, Holbeach

We had a good balanced band playing carols and Christmas songs outside the local Somerfield Stores. It was very cold but the store kindly brought us all a cup of coffee.

23 December 2007 - Carols at Holbeach Hospital and Patchett Lodge

Our last outing of the year was playing carols in the day room of Holbeach Hospital where the staff kindly supplied us with tea and mince pies. This was followed by a visit to Patchett Lodge where we played carols in the day room; the staff supplied a glass of sherry with suasage roll and mince pie.
