6 December 2008 - Carol Playing at Somerfield

It's a couple of years since we have been carol playing in the streets - it's still as cold!

We played outside Somerfield supermarket for two hours on Saturday morning. We had a good turn out by the band and also invited members of the Learner group to join in. Seven members of the Learner group joined in - Clive William and Bethany who have been playing cornet for a year and have recently joined the main band; and Ellie and Bethan (euphonium) and Jimmy and Ricky (baritone) who only started playing in August.

6 December 2008 - Band Bingo

The Band played carols and Christmas songs at the annual Christmas Bingo session run by Les and Brenda, the Band's fund-raisers. Musical Director Mel and Chairman Yvonne were presented with a cheque for £3,000 for the band representing the proceeds of fundraising during the past year. Mel also drew the raffle. He thanked Les and Brenda for all their hard work raising funds for the band. The Band played Happy Birthday for Brenda.

7 December 2008 - Holbeach Christmas Fair

We had a good turnout for the annual Christmas Fair. We were only asked to take part recently but were pleased to do so. This year, for the first time, we were asked to play in one spot outside the Mansion House in the centre of Holbeach. It wa a good spot, but rather too close to amplified muic being played further down the road. It was a lovely sunny day but rather cold - and got colder as we played! We started playing at 2.00pm after the parade had gone by. We finished just before 4.00 when the crowds had disappeared.

13 December 2008 - Christmas Concert

We held our Christmas concert at All Saints Church, Holbeach and were delighted to have members of the local George Farmer Technology College as our guests. We played Christmas songs mixed with carols and the choir lead the singing for the carols. The choir opened the second half of the concert.

The Musical Director was pleased to present young cornet player William with his ABRSM Certificate for passing Grade One with Merit.

20 December 2008 - Carol Playing at Somerfield

Our second Saturday morning carol playing at Somerfield supermarket, Holbeach. We had a good turnout and were pleased that two more of our learner group joined us - 7-year-old twins Ruby and Jasmine Latka who are learning tenor horn and baritone respectively.

21 December 2008 - Hospital/Patchett Lodge

We made our annual visit to Holbeach Hospital on Sunday afternoon where a group played Christmas songs and carols in the three Day Rooms. We went o to Patchett Lodge where we played in the Day Room. The Hospital and Patchett Lodge both kindly supplied us with tea and biscuits.

22 December 2008 - Tanglewood Care Home

A very pleasant evening playing carols for an hour in the Day Room at Tanglewood Cedar Falls Care Home, Spalding. Before going to Tanglewood we played a few carols at Welland Hospital, Spalding.

24 December 2008 - Carol Playing at Somerfield

We had a good turnout for our final carol playing of the year. The weather was good and the customers of Somerfield were appreciative.
